For cooking, ' Giant Italian ' and ' Giant of Naples ' are Italian flat-leaf parsley;' Moss Curled ' and ' Extra Curled ' are curly-leaf parsley. A little more heat tolerant than curly parsley is Italian flat-leafed parsley.
Planting
Plant seeds in individual pots 10 to 12 weeks before the last spring frost indoors for a head beginning. You may soak the seeds overnight for better germination. Plant the seeds 3 to 4 weeks before the last spring frost due to the slow start of parsley. (The crops can cope with the cold weather.) The crops may sprout for up to 3 weeks.
Plant the seeds around 6 to 8 inches apart in a humid, wealthy soil. Plant approximately 6 to 10 inches apart for thinner crops. Try to select a weed-free region; that way, after about 3 weeks, you will be able to see the parsley sprouting. To assist the seedlings to develop, you can use a fluorescent light. Make sure that it always stays at least two inches above the leaves.
The soil should be around 70oF to guarantee the highest development. In your garden, plant parsley close asparagus, maize, and tomatoes.
Care
Remove the flower stalks that form (when flowers remain, the leaves become bitter) and prune the dead leaves if necessary to keep the plant smooth. Where the weather becomes hot, mulch around plants to keep the roots cool; make sure you don't cover the crown that can cause rot. Cut down crops to encourage fresh development towards the end of the increasing season.
Harvesting Parsley Leaves
Once the petroleum reaches a height of at least 6 inches, the leaves can be harvested. Starting with the outer stems (the ones that first grew), cut off the stems near the floor. It will react with fresh development from the middle as you harvest the stems on the outside of the plant. Avoid shaving off stem tops; this will stun fresh development.
